Old 75 Beer Garden is Richardson’s new patio hangout spot

The restaurant and bar is nearly 20,000 square feet of ‘Matthew McConaughey backyard vibes.’

A new beer garden has opened in Richardson, just in time for patio season.

Old 75 Beer Garden, a nearly 20,000-square-foot restaurant and bar, opened in mid-April along U.S. Highway 75 north of Spring Valley Road.

The space has two bars with indoor and outdoor seating, a stage with live music most nights of the week, and a lawn with games and rentable cabanas. It embodies “Matthew McConaughey backyard vibes,” according to owner and founder Kirk Hermansen.

What exactly are Matthew McConaughey backyard vibes? “Cool, casual and designed to simply unwind no matter the occasion,” Hermansen said.

Hermansen is the developer behind Richardson Restaurant Park, where Old 75 and several other restaurants like Dog Haus Biergarten and Halal Guys are located.

The beer garden’s food menu is described as “rooted in South Texas flavors with a touch of New Mexico personality” — think green chili queso, a roasted poblano burger, and buttermilk chicken fried steak (but only on the weekends).

The beer garden has 34 beers on tap, 15 of which are local finds, and another 24 bottled options. For non-beer drinkers, there are mixed drinks, wine and frozen cocktails on tap.

Old 75 is open Monday from 4 to 11 p.m., Tuesday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 a.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. After 8 p.m., it is open only to people 21 or older.
